Objective & Resource Content

The objective is to introduce and consolidate the **basic vocabulary** used to describe transport and travel for **A2 level students**.

The document is a synonym matching exercise on the theme "**Adjectives of Travel**". Students must connect eight pairs of adjectives with similar meanings. The vocabulary covers notions of **speed** (*fast/quick*), **capacity** (*crowded/full*), **type of service** (*local/nearby*, *public/shared*, *direct/straight*, *regular/usual*), and **comfort or mobility** (*comfortable/easy*, *mobile/moving*). This activity allows students to acquire useful words for describing daily transport situations.

Suggested Lesson Flow

Before the Activity (~5 min): MY COMMUTE TO SCHOOL

  • Ask students how they get to school ("How do you get to school?"). Ask them simple questions about their commute: "Is it *fast*? Is it *slow*?". Write the adjectives on the board.

During the Activity (~5-10 min): MATCHING GAME

  • Distribute the sheet. Complete the first pair as a whole group to ensure the instructions are clearly understood.

  • Let students, alone or in pairs, connect the other pairs.

  • Lead a group correction, using images of modes of transport to illustrate the words (a crowded bus for *crowded*, a high-speed train for *fast*).

After the Activity (~10 min): DESCRIBE THE TRANSPORT

  • Show images of different modes of transport (an airplane, a bike, a bus).

  • Ask students to describe each image using one or two adjectives from the sheet. For example, for the airplane: "It's *fast* and *comfortable*.".

Adaptations

  • To Simplify: Mime certain adjectives (running in place for *fast*, being cramped for *crowded*). Do the entire activity as a guided large group activity.

  • To Extend: Ask students to write two simple sentences about their last holiday using at least two different adjectives from the sheet.
