Pedagogical Guide

Objective & Resource Content

The pedagogical objective is to introduce and consolidate **family member vocabulary** as well as the use of the **Simple Present** (in the 3rd person singular) to describe likes and habits.

The song "**My Fun Family**" is a cheerful song that introduces different family members: father, mother, uncle, aunt, brother, and sister. For each person, the song uses the structure "**This is my...**" followed by a sentence in the Simple Present describing what they like to do (e.g., "This is my dad. He **loves** to make a cake.", "This is my aunt. She **loves** to sing."). The chorus, which also mentions the grandparents, celebrates this "**fun family**".

Suggested Lesson Flow

Before the Activity (~5 min): MY FAMILY TREE

  • Draw a very simple **family tree** on the board with schematic figures. Ask students to name each family member (*mom, dad, brother*, etc.) and write down the vocabulary. [Image of a simple family tree diagram]

During the Activity (~10 min): LISTEN AND MIME

  • **First Listen:** Distribute picture cards (flashcards) of the different family members. Students must **raise the correct card** when they hear the word in the song.

  • **Second Listen:** Play the song again. This time, students must **mime the action** associated with each person (pretending to bake a cake for the father, laughing for the mother, singing for the aunt, etc.).

After the Activity (~10 min): THIS IS MY FRIEND

  • Show an image of a cartoon character familiar to the students. As a large group, invent what this character likes to do, following the song's model.

  • The teacher starts: "This is my friend, Pikachu. He loves to..." and the students suggest actions (e.g., "...run!", "...play!").

Adaptations

  • **To Simplify:** Focus only on recognizing family vocabulary. During the song, the teacher shows a picture card and the students must repeat the word in chorus.

  • **To Extend:** Students can draw a member of their own family and write a simple sentence below it following the song's pattern: "**This is my sister. She likes to read.**".
