Objective & Activity Summary

The pedagogical objective is to consolidate the recognition and spelling of a set of six A1-level vocabulary words related to natural and geographical elements (landscapes). The resource is a scrambled word exercise table where each word (e.g., SEROFT, CHEBA) is accompanied by a short definition (Hint) (e.g., "A place with many trees", "A place with sand by the sea"). Students must use the clue to identify the concept (FOREST, BEACH, etc.) and unscramble the word to write the correct spelling. The words to find cover forest, sea, mountain, river, beach, and a farm animal (cow).

Suggested Procedure

Before the activity (~5 min): LANDSCAPES AND KEYWORDS

  • Display images of the six natural elements (mountain, forest, river, sea, beach, cow) and ask students to name those they know in English, thus activating their lexical field.

  • Warn about the complex spelling of some long words (TAMUONIN → MOUNTAIN) and encourage writing answers in rough.

During the activity (~10-15 min): CONTEXTUAL DECODING

  • Step 1: Students work individually. They should focus on the clue to find the word before attempting to unscramble it, as the clue is the key to lexical retrieval.

  • Step 2: Ask students to compare their answers in pairs after 5 minutes. Short words (AES/SEA, WCO/COW) should be found quickly.

  • Step 3: Collective correction and spelling of words. Emphasize the spelling of "EA" in "SEA" and "BEACH" and the difficulty of "OU" in "MOUNTAIN".

After the activity (~5-10 min): FROM IMAGE TO SENTENCE

  • **Sentence Production:** Ask students to write a simple (A1) sentence describing where they like to go on vacation, using at least two words from the list (Ex: "I like the BEACH by the SEA.").

  • **Role-play:** Simulate a short dialogue where one student asks another where an element is (Ex: "Where is the RIVER?"), using the words as reference points.

Adaptations

  • To simplify: For the longest word (MOUNTAIN), group students into small teams to work on unscrambling it as a collaborative mini-project.

  • To extend: Introduce associated adjectives (Ex: large SEA, high MOUNTAIN, green FOREST) and ask students to write more descriptive sentences.
