Objective & Plot Summary

The pedagogical objective of this resource is to reinforce spelling memorization and recognition of basic A1 level vocabulary, focusing on the lexical field of the student's immediate environment (school and home)[cite: 16, 18]. The worksheet is a "mixed words" (Word Scramble) exercise where the student must decode six common words (TEACHER, STUDENT, PEN, HOUSE, CAT, DOG) from their scrambled letters (e.g., REACHTE, DENTSUT, NEP, etc.). Each word is associated with a simple descriptive hint in English (e.g., "A person who works in a school" for TEACHER; "A place where you live" for HOUSE). The activity requires concentration and a good knowledge of fundamental lexicon.

Suggested Procedure

Before the activity (~5 min): PREPARE THE LEXICAL GROUND

  • Knowledge activation: Write the four key themes on the board (School, Home, Professions, Pets). Do a quick "flash-quiz" to check if students know a simple word in each category.

  • Instruction reminder: Write a short word on the board, scramble it, and ask students to decode it orally to ensure the "Word Scramble" principle is clear.

During the activity (~15-20 min): TARGETED DECODING AND VERIFICATION

  • Step 1: Autonomous work: Distribute the worksheet. Emphasize that students should first read the clue ("Hint") and try to anticipate the answer before decoding the scrambled letters. Decoding can be done individually or in challenging pairs.

  • Step 2: Correction and Pronunciation: Lead a collective and quick correction. Ask students to write the correct answer (TEACHER, STUDENT, PEN, HOUSE, CAT, DOG) on the board. Emphasize the correct pronunciation of vowels and consonants for each word found.

After the activity (~10-15 min): CONTEXTUALIZATION

  • Written production: Ask students to create short sentences by linking at least two of the decoded words (e.g., "The teacher gives the student a pen", "My dog is in the house").

  • Use of sounds: For animal words (CAT, DOG), work on onomatopoeia ("meow", "woof") to introduce or review the sounds and verbs associated with these animals.

Adaptations

  • To simplify (A0/Beginner Level): For longer words (TEACHER, STUDENT), circle the first letter of the correct word on the board or provide the number of syllables.

  • To deepen (Towards A2): Ask students to transform nouns (TEACHER, STUDENT, DOG, CAT) into derived adjectives or verbs if they know them, or to find the feminine/masculine of the word (e.g., STUDENT $\rightarrow$ male student/female student).
