Objective & Plot Summary

The educational objective is to consolidate the memorization and spelling of a set of six basic vocabulary words (A1) from varied lexical fields (time, human body, travel). The resource is presented in the form of a table where each line offers a descriptive clue (Hint), for example, "The season when it is cold" , and a word with jumbled letters (Scrambled Word), for example "TREINW". The student must first identify the word corresponding to the clue (WINTER), then reconstruct it by reordering the provided letters. The words to find are CLOCK, MONDAY, JANUARY, WINTER, FACE, and HOTEL .

Suggested Procedure

Before the activity (~5 min): THEMATIC BRAINSTORMING

  • Conduct a quick oral survey to activate lexical fields (time, seasons, body). Ex: "What month is it now?", "Name two parts of your body."

  • Recall the Word Scramble technique, emphasizing the importance of the clue to target the correct word before starting to decipher it[cite: 9, 10].

During the activity (~15-20 min): DECODING AND SPELLING

  • Step 1: Students work individually or in pairs. They must first write the answer word (Answer) from the Hint alone, then check that the letters match the Scrambled Word.

  • Step 2: Ask students to stop after solving the first four words (CLOCK, MONDAY, JANUARY, WINTER). Conduct a quick initial collective correction, focusing on capitalization (days and months).

  • Step 3: Finish the last two words (FACE, HOTEL) and proceed with the final correction, emphasizing the correct pronunciation of all decoded words.

After the activity (~5-10 min): CREATING CONNECTIONS

  • **The mystery word:** Choose one of the words (ex: JANUARY) and ask students to collectively create three new simple sentences using that word, in relation to the other words on the list (ex: "The HOTEL is closed in WINTER.").

  • **Oral production:** Form pairs and ask students to ask each other simple questions using the vocabulary (Ex: "What do you do on MONDAY?") to reuse the words in a personal context.

Adaptations

  • To simplify: Provide a list of images corresponding to the words to find (clock, face, hotel, etc.) to add visual support for understanding the clues.

  • To extend: Use the words CLOCK, MONDAY, JANUARY, WINTER to introduce prepositions of time (at, on, in). Ask students to create new clues for A2 words related to travel (ex: airport, ticket).
