Objective & Resource Content

The pedagogical objective is to develop comprehension of a simple narrative and to reinforce the use of the **Simple Present** tense (affirmative, negative form, and 3rd person singular '-s') for storytelling.

The song is a simplified version of the story of **Peter Rabbit** by Beatrix Potter. Peter, a young rabbit, disobeys his mother, who forbids him from going into Mr. McGregor's garden. Nevertheless, "He **runs** to the garden" and "He **eats** the orange carrots." Mr. McGregor sees him and chases him angrily. While fleeing, Peter loses his coat and shoes ("His coat **is lost**, his shoes **are lost** too"). He is scared and feels lost, but a bird helps him find his way back. He returns home safe and sound, tired. His mother gives him tea and puts him to bed. The story is primarily narrated in the Simple Present tense.

Suggested Lesson Flow

Before the Activity (~5 min): A FAMOUS RABBIT

  • Show an image of Peter Rabbit and ask students if they know the character and his story. Write down the keywords they propose on the board (*rabbit, garden, carrots*...).

During the Activity (~10-15 min): PUT THE STORY IN ORDER

  • **First Listen:** Provide a worksheet with 5-6 images illustrating the key events of the story out of order. Students listen to the song and **number the images** in the correct sequence.

  • **Second Listen:** Distribute the lyrics with the main verbs in the Simple Present missing (e.g., "He ____ to the garden", "He ____ the carrots", "He ____ not listen"). Students listen again to complete the blanks.

  • **Correction:** Correct the worksheet as a large group, paying particular attention to the final "**-s**" on the verbs in the third person singular.

After the Activity (~10 min): TELL THE STORY

  • Using the sequence of images they placed in order, ask the students to **retell the story orally** in their own words.

  • The teacher can guide with questions: "What does Peter do first?", "Then, what does he eat?", "Is Mr. McGregor happy?".

Adaptations

  • **To Simplify:** Focus only on the image sequencing activity. After listening, point to each image and ask simple closed questions ("Does he eat carrots? Yes/No").

  • **To Extend:** Ask students to **write a few sentences from the perspective of another character** (e.g., Mr. McGregor: "I **am** in my garden. I **see** a rabbit. He **eats** my carrots. I **am** angry.").
