Hello, did you know that by registering for our English contest, The Big Challenge CONTEST, you are giving out information about yourself, some of which is personal data?
If you continue to read this page, you will learn how we use your data. You will also learn what you can do if you have any questions about your data or to protect your privacy.

Who are we?

We’re The Big Challenge and we’re working with your school to organise this English language contest, which takes place at the end of the school year and gives you the chance to test your level of English and even win a prize.

What is personal data?

When you register for the contest, you voluntarily provide us with information about yourself, known as « personal data ». Your teacher may choose to give you the contest in paper format or in digital format via the Internet Platform.

Personal data is any information that can be linked to you.

To take The Big Challenge CONTEST, your teacher can choose to do so either in paper format or in digital format via the Platform.

If your teacher has chosen the paper format, the personal data we have about you is :

  • Data relating to your identity: your surname, first name, date of birth, country of residence, etc.
  • Information about your school life: your grade, the name of your class and the name of your school,
  • Information to enable us to contact you: your e-mail address or the e-mail address of one of your parents (optional),
  • Information about the emails you send us or that your parents send us: the content of your email (or the email of one of your parents), the date and subject of your email, our reply to your email,
  • Your parents’ consent for you to enter The Big Challenge contest,
  • Your answers to the contest.

If your teacher has chosen the digital format via the Internet Platform, the personal data we hold about you is :

  • Data relating to your identity: your surname, first name, date of birth, country of residence,
  • Data relating to your school life: your grade, the name of your class and the name of your school,
  • Information to enable us to contact you: your e-mail address or the e-mail address of one of your parents (optional),
  • Information about the emails you send us or that your parents send us: the content of your email (or the email of one of your parents), the date and subject of your email, our reply to your email,
  • Data relating to your connection, such as the type of connection used,
  • Your parents’ consent for you to register for The Big Challenge competition,
  • Your answers to the contest.

This data is part of your private life and we have an obligation to protect it. We must also inform you of how we use it.

What do we do with your data?

Why do we need this data?

  • To enable you to register for the contest,
  • To reply to you if you contact us, as we don’t want to leave your questions unanswered,
  • To send you prizes according to your ranking.
  • To publish your results on the social networks of your choice
  • In the event of technical problems

How long will your data be kept with us?

Once the contest has ended and you have completed your participation in the contest, your data will be permanently deleted. After these deadlines, your data will be permanently deleted.

Who are your details sent to?

Daphne Riefenstahl is the guardian of your data. Your school also has access to your data.

We may also pass on your data to companies working on our behalf, but only for the purposes of hosting the Platform via Alphasquare, AWS (servers exclusively in the European Union), for scanning the online competition and preparing the prizes. We will of course take care to ensure that they protect your data as we do and do not use it for any other purpose.

These companies may transfer your data outside the European Union. In this case, they will take the necessary steps to protect your data during this transfer with Standard Contractual Clauses.

How is your data secured?

We take great care to ensure that your data is not lost, stolen or used by people who have no right to it.

Here are some examples of the security measures we use:

  • The only person who has the right to read your e-mails is the person responsible for your geographical area,
  • We have secured access to our premises to protect them,
  • We have encrypted your password in our database.
