Objective & Resource Content
The objective is to continue enriching the basic vocabulary of **A2 level students** by having them match a new set of pairs of high-frequency adjectives.
The document is a synonym matching exercise focused on general adjectives ("**General Adjectives - 2**"). Students must connect eight pairs of words with similar meanings. The vocabulary includes pairs such as *strange/unusual*, *normal/usual*, *loud/noisy*, *common/general*, *new/modern*, *near/close*, *bad/terrible*, and *different/alternative*. This activity reinforces the understanding of common words and introduces useful alternatives for everyday descriptions.
Suggested Lesson Flow
Before the Activity (~5 min): WHAT IS IT LIKE?
-
Draw students' attention to objects or situations in the classroom (a new poster, a noise in the hallway, etc.). Ask them to provide adjectives to describe them (e.g., "Is it *new* or *old*? Is the sound *loud*?").
During the Activity (~5-10 min): MATCHING GAME
-
Distribute the sheet. Briefly remind students what a synonym is.
-
Let students, alone or in pairs, connect the pairs.
-
Lead a group correction, having the words repeated to work on pronunciation and miming certain concepts if necessary (e.g., *loud/noisy*).
After the Activity (~10 min): CHOOSE THE RIGHT WORD
-
Write simple fill-in-the-blank sentences on the board and offer two synonyms from the sheet as options. Students must choose the word that fits best (e.g., "This music is too ____. (*loud* / *noisy*)").
Adaptations
-
To Simplify: Use images to illustrate each adjective before starting the exercise. Do the entire activity as a large, guided group.
-
To Extend: Ask students to create a simple sentence for three of the adjective pairs, showing that they can use both words in the pair correctly.
