Objective & Plot Summary

The pedagogical objective is to consolidate the memorization and spelling of a set of six A1-level animal vocabulary words. The resource is a word scramble exercise table where each word (ex: REGIT, ΝΑΡΗΤELE) is accompanied by a short definition (Hint) that describes it (ex: "A large cat with stripes", "A large animal from Africa or Asia"). Students must use the hint to identify the animal's name (TIGER, ELEPHANT, etc.) and reconstruct it with the correct spelling from the scrambled letters. The words to find are ELEPHANT, TIGER, LION, HORSE, PIG, and BIRD.

Suggested Procedure

Before the activity (~5 min): SOUND IDENTIFICATION AND DESCRIPTION

  • Propose an animal sound game (or short descriptions) and ask students to quickly name the animal in English, thus activating their lexical field.

  • Draw attention to the clues, explaining that they provide very precise characteristics (e.g., 'king of the jungle' for LION; 'oink' for PIG).

During the activity (~10-15 min): DECODING THE SPECIES

  • Step 1: Students work individually to decode the six words. They start with shorter words (NOLI $ ightarrow$ LION, GIP $ ightarrow$ PIG) to build confidence before tackling longer words (ELEPHANT, TIGER).

  • Step 2: For complex words, encourage them to write down the word they think is the answer, then compare each letter with the available letters in the "Scrambled Word".

  • Step 3: Collective correction. Ask students to read the clue and provide the spelling of the word to ensure correct writing of each term, especially TIGER (REGIT) and BIRD (DRIB).

After the activity (~5-10 min): CLASSIFICATION AND DESCRIPTION

  • Categorization: Ask students to classify the six animals into two categories (e.g., Jungle/Wild Animals vs. Farm/Domestic Animals) to consolidate semantic understanding.

  • Oral Production: In pairs, ask students to create new clues (Hint) for the animals (e.g., "It has a long neck." $ ightarrow$ GIRAFFE) and have their classmates guess them.

Adaptations

  • To simplify: Provide an image of each animal next to its corresponding clue for direct visual support.

  • To deepen: Introduce adjectives for describing animals (e.g., *big*, *fast*, *dangerous*). Ask students to write a complete sentence using an adjective for each decoded animal (e.g., "The TIGER is fast and large.").
