Objective & Activity Synopsis
The main pedagogical objective is to reinforce the recognition and memorization of A2-level vocabulary related to places in a city (transport, culture, services) by developing the ability to categorize and identify a word that does not belong to this lexical field. The resource is an "Odd One Out" type exercise consisting of seven lines of four words. In each line, the majority of words designate urban places or buildings (e.g., station, airport, museum), while the odd one out is a basic A1 common noun (e.g., food, money, shirt, hat) from other themes. The student must circle the word foreign to the lexical field of the city.
Suggested Procedure
Before the activity (~5 min): ACTIVATE THE URBAN LANDSCAPE

Warm-up: The teacher distributes the worksheet. Write 'Places in a City' on the board. Ask students to name places they visit or know in their city in English (e.g., *school, cinema, park*) to reactivate the theme.

Concept Introduction: Remind them of the 'Odd One Out' rule and emphasize that this time, they will have to find which word is **not** a place.
During the activity (~15-20 min): ANALYZE THE SEMANTIC FIELD

Step 1: Individual Resolution (10 min). Students read and circle the odd one out. Encourage students to try to mentally define the function of each place to confirm its belonging to the group (e.g., A *museum* is for seeing art, an *hospital* is for care).

Step 2: Peer Verification and Justification (5-10 min). In pairs, students compare their choices. They prepare oral justification using the complete sentence: « Food is the odd one out because **station, airport, and museum** are **places** (in a city). »
After the activity (~10-15 min): DESCRIBE ASSOCIATED ACTIVITIES

Collective Correction: Proceed with oral correction. Write the places on the board and categorize them (Transport, Culture/Leisure, Services).

Grammatical Reinvestment: Ask students to formulate simple sentences to describe the activity associated with two of the places (e.g., « I **watch a play** at the **theatre** » or « I **buy food** at the **supermarket** ») using the appropriate verb.
Adaptations

To simplify: Provide an image bank or an illustrated dictionary of places for students who struggle with A2 vocabulary. Researching the place reinforces autonomy and facilitates the categorization task.

To extend: Use the places to introduce complex prepositions of place (A2): ask students to locate two of the places in relation to each other (e.g., « The **market** is **next to** the **office** » or « The **gallery** is **opposite** the **stadium** »).
