At The Big Challenge (Motivation Learning Company), protecting your personal data is a priority.

When you use the thebigchallenge.com platform (hereinafter the “Platform”), we may collect personal data about you.

The purpose of this policy is to inform you how we process this data in compliance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (hereinafter the “GDPR”).

Who is the data controller?

The data controller is Motivation Learning Company, a simplified joint-stock company registered with the Paris Trade Register under number 331 914 200 and whose registered office is at 54 rue de Clichy, 75009 Paris (hereinafter “We”). What data do we collect?

Personal data is data that makes it possible to identify an individual directly or by cross-referencing with other data.

We collect data falling into the following categories:

  • Identification data (in particular your surname, first names, email and postal address, phone number)
  • Connection data (in particular your IP address and the date of your last connection)
  • Any information you wish to provide as part of your contact request

Mandatory data is indicated when you provide your data. It is marked with an asterisk and is necessary to provide you with our services.

Who are the recipients of your data?

The following will have access to your personal data:

  • Our company’s staff
  • Our processors: hosting provider (AWS), managed-services provider (AlphaSquare), newsletter provider (Sarbacane and Sendinblue)
  • Where applicable: public and private bodies, exclusively to meet our legal obligations

May your data be transferred outside the European Union?

Your data is kept and stored throughout the processing on the servers of Amazon Web Services (AWS), located in Europe. However, as part of certain technical tools, your data may be transferred outside the European Union. In that case, we ensure that these transfers are secured by appropriate safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses).

What are your rights over your data?

You have the following rights:

  • Right to information: this is why we have written this policy (Articles 13 and 14 of the GDPR)
  • Right of access: you have the right to access all your personal data at any time (Article 15 of the GDPR)
  • Right to rectification: you have the right to rectify your inaccurate data at any time (Article 16 of the GDPR)
  • Right to restriction: you have the right to obtain restriction of processing (Article 18 of the GDPR)
  • Right to erasure: you have the right to require the erasure of your data (Article 17 of the GDPR)

If you keep reading this page, you will learn how we use your data. You will also learn what you can do if you have a question about your data or to protect your privacy.

Who are we?

The Big Challenge and your school jointly organise an English contest that lets you assess your level of English and maybe win a prize. Alongside this, The Big Challenge gives you access to a Platform via a mobile app or directly online. Registration is not required to take part in the contest.

What is personal data?

Personal data is any information that can be linked to you. About you, we have:

  • 👤Data relating to your identity: your nickname, surname, first name, date of birth, country of residence, a photograph (optional)
  • 🎒Data relating to your school life: your school level, the name of your class and the name of your school
  • 📧Data to contact us: your email address or that of one of your parents (optional)
  • 💬Data relating to your emails: the content, date and subject of your email, our reply
  • 🌐Data relating to your connection: the type of connection used, your IP address, your mobile phone operator
  • 📊Data relating to your browsing: statistics of the pages viewed
  • 🍪Cookies and trackers for a better experience
  • Your parents’ consent to register you
  • 🎮Your answers in the game and your progress

This data is part of your privacy and we are obliged to protect it.

What do we do with your data?

We need your data to:

How long is your data kept?

Who is your data shared with?

Daphné Riefenstahl is the guardian of your data. Your teacher and your school may also have access to your data to help you progress. We share your data with companies that work for us (Alphasquare and Amazon Web Services) only for hosting, with the same protections we use. Sometimes these companies have to move your data outside Europe, but we have signed special contracts so it stays safe.

How is your data secured?

We take great care that your data is not lost or used by people who have no right to know it:

What is personal data?

Personal data is any information that can be linked to you. From the moment you register for the contest, you voluntarily share information about yourself.

The contest format changes depending on what your teacher chooses:

Paper format

The data we have about you is: your surname, first name, date of birth, country of residence, school level, the name of your class and your school, your email address (optional), your parents’ consent, and your contest answers.

Digital format

We have the same data as the paper format, plus: connection data (type of connection used, IP address).

This data is part of your privacy and we are obliged to protect it.

What do we do with your data?

We need your data to:

  • Let you register for the contest
  • Reply to you if you contact us
  • Send you your prizes according to your ranking
  • Publish your results on the social networks of your choice
  • Resolve technical problems

How long is your data kept?
