Teaching guide
Objective & content
By the end, A1 students can answer simple personal questions aloud using a sentence-frame scaffold — talking about their life, family, free time and daily habits. This getting-to-know-you speaking deck gives 24 "All about me" chat prompts, each card pairing a question with a sentence frame. It plays on screen (draw and shuffle) or prints as a single A4 sheet of cut-out cards.
Pedagogical guide
Use this deck as a first-lessons icebreaker or a recurring warm-up: it needs zero prep and builds speaking confidence before students can form their own questions. Every prompt supplies its own frame ("I live in ___. My town is ___."), so students only fill gaps rather than build full sentences from scratch. The deck assumes basic present simple and have got — no question-forming is expected of students at A1; the teacher handles any follow-up.
Suggested procedure
- (2 min) Form groups of 3–4 and shuffle or display the deck.
- (1 min) Model one card: read the question, complete the frame aloud.
- (8–10 min) Students take turns drawing a card and answering aloud using the frame; the teacher circulates and asks quick follow-ups.
- (2 min) Whole-class share-out: 2–3 students repeat their favourite answer.
Adaptations
- [S] Accept one completed sentence per card; keep to the frame only; skip harder cards (jobs, holidays) if needed.
- [A] Add a second sentence beyond the frame; encourage a follow-up question to a partner (with light teacher support forming it).
Materials & prerequisites
Plays on screen (draw/shuffle) or prints as a single A4 sheet of cut-out cards. Assumes present simple, have got, and basic personal-information vocabulary (family, free time, food).
Curriculum alignment
Maps to Cycle 3 "child and close environment" (FR 6e) — talking about oneself, one's family and daily life.
Assessment & extensions
Listen for correct frame completion as an informal speaking check. Extend into a written "About me" paragraph, or pair with the My Day and Free Time & Hobbies decks for a fuller self-portrait.
Possible adaptations
- Lower levels: Offer segmented listening and additional visual aids.
- Advanced levels: Encourage an oral summary and a debate in English on the theme.
- Large groups: Organise group work with differentiated roles.
