1. Atrapar (pelota, animal, ladrón)
- I caught the ball. — Atrapé la pelota.
- The police caught the thief. — La policía atrapó al ladrón.
2. Coger (autobús, tren, avión)
Catch the bus / train / plane = no perderlo.
- I catch the bus at 8. — Cojo el autobús a las 8.
- We caught the last train. — Cogimos el último tren.
3. Coger (una enfermedad)
Catch a cold / the flu.
- I caught a cold. — Cogí un resfriado.
Las trampas que debes evitar
1. Catch o take para el transporte
El coger español se reparte en inglés: catch insiste en no perderlo (el autobús está a punto de salir), take es neutro. Los dos son correctos: I catch / take the bus. ⚠️ Pero coger no siempre es catch: coger un libro = pick up a book, coger frío = get cold.
2. Catch up, phrasal verb
Catch up (with someone) = alcanzar a alguien o ponerse al día. Let's catch up next week = nos ponemos al día la semana que viene.

Caught se pronuncia /kɔːt/, como bought (/bɔːt/), thought (/θɔːt/), fought (/fɔːt/). La «gh» es muda y «augh» suena /ɔː/.
