Objective & Plot Summary
The main pedagogical objective is to reactivate and reinforce the recognition and spelling of essential A1 level vocabulary through a fun and enigmatic approach. The resource consists of six "scrambled words" (Word Scramble) exercises[cite: 1, 3]. Students must decode a series of letters to form a basic vocabulary word (APPLE, CHAIR, DOCTOR, SCHOOL, WATER, HAPPY). For each scrambled word, a simple hint is provided to guide the search (e.g.: "A red or green fruit" for APPLE; "A place for students" for SCHOOL). The activity thus mobilizes lexical memory and deduction skills.
Suggested Procedure
Before the activity (~5 min): ACTIVATE KEY VOCABULARY
Announcement & Brainstorming: Display the six vocabulary categories (Food, Furniture, Place, Profession, Liquid, Feeling) and ask students, in groups, to name a word they know in each category.
Introduction: Write a short word on the board (e.g., CAT $\rightarrow$ TCA) and have them decode it as a team to explain the principle of "Word Scramble"[cite: 1, 3].
During the activity (~15-20 min): DECODING GAME AND VERIFICATION
Step 1: Individual Discovery and Decoding: Distribute the worksheet. Emphasize careful reading of the hints to confirm the meaning of the target word. Students work individually or in quiet pairs.
Step 2: Collective Validation and Pronunciation: Correction on the board. The teacher or a student writes the decoded word. For each word found (APPLE, CHAIR, DOCTOR, SCHOOL, WATER, HAPPY), have the class repeat it to practice pronunciation and stress.
After the activity (~10-15 min): CREATE YOUR OWN PUZZLES
Production / Consolidation: Ask students, individually or in pairs, to choose 3 or 4 other simple A1 level words they know. They must then "scramble" them and write their own simple hint (in English if possible) on a separate sheet of paper.
Exchange Game: Pairs exchange their "scrambles" and try to decode those of their classmates. This allows for vocabulary reuse and strengthens active orthographic memorization.
Adaptations
To simplify (A0 Level/Beginners): Remove the hints from the worksheet and verbally provide the word in French (e.g.: "What is the translation of 'chaise'? Now, find the word from these letters").
To extend (Towards A2): Ask students to write a short sentence (or two) for each word found, using the word in a relevant context (e.g.: "I have a big chair in my bedroom.").
