Objective & Plot Summary
The pedagogical objective is to revise and consolidate the spelling memorization of fundamental A1 level vocabulary by covering several essential lexical fields (Family, Numbers, Places, Food, Seasons). The resource is a "scrambled words" (Word Scramble) exercise where the student must decode six short and essential words (MEAL, BROTHER, TEN, CINEMA, SUMMER, FOOD) from their jumbled letters (e.g.: LAME, REBROTH, NET, etc.). The "Hint" associated with each word helps guide the student in their decoding by providing a simple definition (e.g.: "The number after nine" for TEN).
Suggested Procedure
Before the activity (~5 min): THEMATIC CHALLENGE
Announcement & Categorization: Write the found vocabulary categories on the board (Food, Family, Numbers, Entertainment, Seasons). Ask students to name an English word they know in each category to activate their mental schemes.
Simple Definition: Recall the decoding principle and emphasize that reading the hint is the key to finding the word before reorganizing the letters.
During the activity (~15-20 min): DECODING AND LINKING
Step 1: Decode in "Chrono": Distribute the worksheet. Start an 8 to 10-minute countdown to encourage speed. Students work individually to decode the 6 words (MEAL, BROTHER, TEN, CINEMA, SUMMER, FOOD).
Step 2: Correction and Contextualization: Correction on the board. For each decoded word, ask students to associate it with another vocabulary unit (e.g.: MEAL $ ightarrow$ breakfast / BROTHER $ ightarrow$ sister / CINEMA $ ightarrow$ film).
After the activity (~10-15 min): CONNECTING THEMES
Oral/Written Production: Ask students to write one or two sentences linking at least three of the found words, even if they belong to different categories (e.g.: "In summer, I go to the cinema with my brother after a big meal.").
Imitation Game: Ask students to imagine a new simple hint for one of the words on the list. The teacher then has the class guess the word using these new hints.
Adaptations
To simplify (Level A0/Beginners): For longer words (BROTHER, CINEMA, SUMMER), offer an image associated with the word to guide decoding, in addition to the hint.
To deepen (Towards A2): Ask students to conjugate the verb "to eat" to describe the "MEAL" (e.g.: "I **eat** a lot of **food** for lunch") or to form complex sentences including a season (e.g.: "I go to the **cinema** when it is not **summer**.").
