Objective & Activity Summary
The pedagogical objective is to master the spelling and recognition of numbers from 1 to 6 in English, in accordance with A1 level. The resource is a six-row table, each proposing a word with scrambled letters (Scrambled Word). The clue (Hint) is the English translation of the number that the word represents ("The number 1", "The number 2", etc.). The student must read the clue, identify the number (ONE, TWO, etc.) then reorder the provided letters (ΕΝΟ, OWT, etc.) to write the correct spelling. This exercise is a quick and fun tool for checking number vocabulary.
Suggested Procedure
Before the activity (~5 min): COUNTING AND CHANTING
Quickly review numbers 1 to 10 orally. Use flashcards or fingers to check number recognition and word pronunciation.
Explain that today's challenge is to correct the spelling of words, which have been "scrambled" by a mischievous robot.
During the activity (~10-15 min): SPELLING DECODING
Step 1: Timed individual work. The student reads the clue ("The number X"), recalls the spelling of the number, then uses the letters from the "Scrambled Word" to write the answer.
Step 2: Ask students to exchange their papers for peer correction. Project the answers (ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX) and emphasize spelling memorization.
Step 3: Emphasize spelling difficulties like THREE (with 'th') or FOUR (with 'u') to prevent future errors.
After the activity (~5-10 min): CHAIN GAME
**Number Chain Game:** Start a sentence ("I have ONE pen.") and ask the next student to continue with the next number, changing the object (Ex: "I have TWO rulers."), until reaching SIX, to reuse the vocabulary in a simple context.
**Flash Dictation:** Conduct a micro-dictation focused solely on the spelling of the six numbers learned to immediately assess vocabulary memorization.
Adaptations
To simplify: Conduct the activity in a large group, where each student, in turn, provides a letter of the word in the correct order until the word is reconstructed.
To deepen: Extend the exercise to numbers 7 to 12. Ask students to create their own scrambled version of these new numbers (e.g., NEVSE → SEVEN) and propose them to a classmate.
