Teaching guide

Objective & content

A two-page printable that goes with the Now You Say It episode What Is the Weather Like?: the same house under six different skies. Pupils write the weather word for each number, answer for today's weather themselves, then colour the picture, with the teacher key on page two.

Pedagogical guide

"Weather" and "cold" are A1; "sunny", "windy", "cloudy" and "snowy" are A2 and "rainy" is B1 in the glossary, all kept as declared exceptions for this module since teachers use them in class from the first term. The house and the tree are the same in all six frames, so the only thing that changes is the sky, which is worth pointing out: it isolates the one word that matters in each picture.

Suggested procedure

  1. (3 min) Play the episode's game: point at a frame and ask "What is the weather like?"
  2. (10 min) Hand out page 1. Pupils write the word for each numbered sky from the list.
  3. (5 min) Pupils answer the last line: what is the weather like today?
  4. (5 min) Correct from page 2.
  5. (10 min) Colouring.

Adaptations

[S] Read the word list aloud and let pupils match number to word.

[A] Fold the word list away, then ask pupils to draw a seventh sky of their own on the back.

Materials & prerequisites

Page 1 printed for every pupil, plus coloured pencils. Keep page 2, the teacher key. Black and white printing is enough and is what the sheet is designed for.

Possible adaptations

  • Lower levels: Offer segmented listening and additional visual aids.
  • Advanced levels: Encourage an oral summary and a debate in English on the theme.
  • Large groups: Organise group work with differentiated roles.
