Objective & content
By the end, A1+ pupils can talk about weekend plans with going to (Amira is going to go to the cinema.) and say whose weekend they like best, and why. The bank is 7 projectable slides: a how-to slide, then 6 slides of four people, each with three pictured and labelled plans such as play tennis, walk the dog or visit grandparents. A past-simple variant (What did they do last weekend?) is marked for A2- classes.
Pedagogical guide
Use it as a five-minute warm-up once going to has been introduced. The pictures and labels carry the vocabulary, so pupils can focus on the structure: He is going to ..., She isn't going to .... The last step adds an opinion with a reason (I like Ben's weekend because ...). The slides are interchangeable, and the same activity comes back on several slides in new combinations, so a new slide each lesson recycles the words.
Suggested procedure
- (1 min) Show the how-to slide and read the example together.
- (2 min) Show one slide. Pupils choose one person and say the three plans: Amira is going to go to the cinema.
- (2 min) The class says whose weekend they like best, and why.
Adaptations
- [S] Point to the pictures and read the labels together first; pupils say one plan each.
- [A] Memory: hide the slide and ask What is Ben going to do? Or pupils choose three pictures for their own weekend.
- A2- classes: use the past variant: What did they do last weekend?
Materials & prerequisites
A projector or screen; the bank is a 16:9 PDF, one slide per page, with no printing needed. Assumes be going to and free-time verbs (go, play, eat, watch); the past variant assumes the past simple.
Curriculum alignment
Maps to Cycle 3 "child and close environment" (FR): talking about free time and plans.
Possible adaptations
- Lower levels: Offer segmented listening and additional visual aids.
- Advanced levels: Encourage an oral summary and a debate in English on the theme.
- Large groups: Organise group work with differentiated roles.
