Objective & content
This activity sheet is a class mingle about the body. Pupils walk round the class and ask eight questions with Have you got ...? and Can you ...?, write the name of a friend who says yes, then draw two friends and write about them with has got and can. By the end, pupils ask and answer Have you got blue eyes? Yes, I have. and Can you touch your toes? Yes, I can.
Pedagogical guide
Page 1 has eight lines, each with a question to ask. Three use Have you got ...? (blue eyes, long hair, a brother) and five use Can you ...? (touch your toes, wiggle your ears, stand on one leg, touch your nose with your tongue, clap with your feet). Pupils walk round, ask one friend at a time and write the name of a friend who says yes, a different friend for each line if they can. Then pupils draw two friends in the frame and write about them from four starters: ... has got ..., ... can ..., twice. There is no answer key, because the answers are the pupils' own; page 2 holds only the teacher notes. Practise the questions and the short answers first: Yes, I have. / No, I haven't. Yes, I can. / No, I can't.
Suggested procedure
- (5 min) Practise the questions and the short answers with the class.
- (10 min) Pupils walk round the class, ask the questions and write a name on each line.
- (5 min) Pupils draw two friends and write about them; a few pupils report two answers to the class ("Sam has got blue eyes.").
Adaptations
[S] Write the four short answers on the board.
[A] Pupils add a question of their own.
Materials & prerequisites
One copy per pupil of page 1, in colour or black and white. Pupils need only a pencil, and room to walk round the class. Page 2 holds the teacher notes only (there are no answers): keep it. Pupils should know the body words, blue eyes and long hair; every question is written on the sheet.
Possible adaptations
- Lower levels: Offer segmented listening and additional visual aids.
- Advanced levels: Encourage an oral summary and a debate in English on the theme.
- Large groups: Organise group work with differentiated roles.
