Objective & content
This activity sheet is about asking and answering about food you like. Pupils read what three children like, tick and cross a grid, then ask three friends five questions in a survey. By the end, pupils ask Do you like pizza? and answer Yes, I do. / No, I don't.
Pedagogical guide
In task 1 pupils read about Amara, Jin and Lucas, for example I like pizza and apples. I don't like fish., and tick what each child likes and cross what each child doesn't like in a grid of four foods (pizza, fish, apples, ice cream). Each child names all four foods, so every cell has one answer. In task 2 pupils practise the question and the answers: Do you like chips? Yes, I do. / No, I don't. In task 3 they ask three friends five questions (pizza, fish, chips, peas, chocolate) and write Yes or No in the survey grid, then tell the class one answer. The question and the short answers are given as a fixed formula. Page 2 gives the answer key and the teacher notes.
Suggested procedure
- (5 min) Ask three pupils "Do you like pizza?" and model the answers Yes, I do. and No, I don't.
- (8 min) Task 1: pupils read about Amara, Jin and Lucas and tick or cross the grid; check with the answer key.
- (4 min) Task 2: pupils say the question and the two answers in pairs.
- (8 min) Task 3: pupils ask three friends the five questions, write Yes or No, then tell the class one answer.
Adaptations
[S] Do Amara together.
[A] Pupils add a food of their own to the survey.
Materials & prerequisites
One copy per pupil of page 1, in colour or black and white. Pupils need a pencil, and room to walk round and ask three friends for task 3. Page 2 is the answer key with teacher notes: keep it. The sheet gives the food words with pictures, so pupils need no food words beforehand; I like and I don't like are in the three children's texts.
Possible adaptations
- Lower levels: Offer segmented listening and additional visual aids.
- Advanced levels: Encourage an oral summary and a debate in English on the theme.
- Large groups: Organise group work with differentiated roles.
