Objective & content
This documentary episode explains how the Romans conquered Britain. It presents the plan of Emperor Claudius and the general Aulus Plautius, the revolt of Queen Boudica of the Iceni against the Romans, and the building of Hadrian's Wall. The language focus is the past simple (was/were and common verbs such as came, went and won), with vocabulary for historical dates, famous people and government (army, ruler, queen). Learners practise listening for key facts and following events in time. A line to quote: "You can still see parts of this wall today."
