1. Obtener, recibir
- I got an A on the test. — Saqué un sobresaliente en el examen.
- Did you get my message? — ¿Recibiste mi mensaje?
2. Ponerse, volverse (= become)
Get + adjetivo expresa un cambio de estado.
- It's getting cold. — Está empezando a hacer frío.
- I'm getting tired. — Me estoy cansando.
- She got angry. — Se enfadó.
3. Llegar, alcanzar
- I get to school at 8. — Llego al colegio a las 8.
- When did you get home? — ¿Cuándo llegaste a casa?
4. Have got: posesión (inglés británico)
- I've got two sisters. — Tengo dos hermanas (= I have).
- Have you got a pen? — ¿Tienes un bolígrafo?
5. Phrasal verbs con get
- get up — levantarse
- get on / off — subir / bajar (autobús, tren)
- get along with — llevarse bien con
- get back — volver, regresar
- get over — recuperarse de, superar
Las trampas que debes evitar
1. Getting con doble t
La forma en -ing lleva doble t: getting. Regla clásica: monosílabo con vocal breve + consonante final → se dobla la consonante delante de -ing/-ed. El español no dobla consonantes (salvo rr, ll, cc): esta regla no tiene equivalente en tu lengua, apréndela como un patrón nuevo y puramente inglés.
2. Get = ponerse o conseguir
Según el contexto, get puede significar conseguir/obtener o ponerse/quedarse (cambio de estado). I got a new bike = conseguí una bici nueva. I got tired = me quedé cansado. En español se usan verbos distintos según el matiz (ponerse, quedarse, volverse); en inglés, get los cubre casi todos.
3. Got (UK) frente a gotten (US)
En el participio pasado, el inglés británico usa got, el inglés americano usa gotten. I have got it (UK) / I have gotten it (US). En los colegios españoles se suele enseñar la forma británica.

¿Cómo se conjuga el verbo get en presente?+
En presente, get tiene dos formas: get con I, you, we, they (I get the bus), y gets con he, she, it (she gets up early). En 3ª persona, se añade simplemente una -s.
¿Cuál es el pasado simple del verbo get?+
El pasado simple de to get es got, invariable (I got, you got, he got…). Es un verbo irregular: no lleva -ed.
¿Cuál es la diferencia entre got y gotten?+
Got = participio pasado en inglés británico. Gotten = participio pasado en inglés americano. Los dos son válidos. En pasado simple, siempre es got, en todas las variantes.
¿Qué significa get en get up, get on, get off, get along?+
Get se usa mucho en phrasal verbs. Get up = levantarse. Get on/off = subir/bajar (del autobús). Get along with = llevarse bien con. Get back = volver. Get over = recuperarse de. El significado depende de la partícula.
¿Cuál es la diferencia entre have y have got?+
Have y have got tienen el mismo significado para expresar posesión (I have a brother = I’ve got a brother). Have got es más frecuente en inglés británico y en el habla oral. En pasado, se dice had (nunca had got).
