1. Colpire, urtare
- Don't hit your sister! (Non picchiare tua sorella!)
- The car hit a tree. (La macchina ha urtato un albero.)
2. Raggiungere (bersaglio, obiettivo)
- The arrow hit the target. (La freccia ha colpito il bersaglio.)
- The film hit theaters last week. (Il film è uscito nelle sale la settimana scorsa.)
3. Senso figurato: a hit / hit it off
- The song was a big hit. (La canzone è stata un grande successo.)
- We hit it off immediately. (Ci siamo trovati subito in sintonia.)
Le trappole da evitare
1. Hit ≠ beat
In italiano battere vuol dire sia «colpire» (battere il pugno sul tavolo) sia «vincere» (li abbiamo battuti 3 a 0). In inglese no: hit = colpire una volta; beat = picchiare più volte oppure sconfiggere. We beat them 3-0 ✓, mai We hit them 3-0 ❌.
2. Hit me up = phrasal verb
Hit me up (slang) = contattami, scrivimi. Hit me up tomorrow = chiamami domani. Molto informale.
