Objective & content

This activity sheet is about hair and eye colours. Pupils look at five line drawings of children, read what colour their hair and eyes are and colour them in, then use clues to find who is who. By the end, pupils say He's got brown eyes. She's got red hair. and write about themselves.

Pedagogical guide

Task 1 shows five children, Bodhi, Keiko, Ivo, Remy and Mabli, as line drawings with white hair and big eyes to colour. In task 2 pupils read five descriptions, such as Ivo has got blond hair. He's got blue eyes., and colour the hair and the eyes of each child. In task 3 they read four clues (He's got glasses., She's got freckles., She's got long straight hair., He's got curly hair.) and write the name: only one child fits each clue. The sheet ends with And you?: pupils complete two lines that begin I've got about their own hair and eyes. There is no self-portrait on this sheet. Page 2 gives the answer key and the teacher notes.

Suggested procedure

  1. (5 min) Ask "What colour are your eyes?" and answer for a few pupils (Brown!). Then pupils look at the five children (task 1).
  2. (10 min) Task 2: pupils read the five descriptions and colour the hair and the eyes of each child.
  3. (5 min) Task 3: pupils read the four clues and write who it is; check with the answer key.
  4. (5 min) Task 4: pupils write about their own hair and eyes; pairs read their lines to each other.

Adaptations

[S] Read the sentences aloud and point to the colours first.

[A] Pupils colour the T-shirts and write a sentence for each child.

Materials & prerequisites

One copy per pupil of page 1, in colour or black and white. Pupils need a pencil and colouring pencils (black, brown, blond or yellow, red, blue and green). Page 2 is the answer key with teacher notes: keep it. Pupils need to know the basic colours before the sheet. Allow time for task 2, which has the most colouring.

Possible adaptations
