Objective & content
This activity sheet is about the words that describe people. Pupils write twelve words under twelve pictures, then read six short sentences and link each one to a picture by its number. By the end, pupils say He's tall. She's got long curly hair. and point to the right person.
Pedagogical guide
Task 1 shows twelve pictures and a word box with the twelve words; pupils write each word once. The four hair pictures carry two words each (long curly, long straight, short curly, short straight), so no picture fits two labels. In task 2 pupils read six sentences, such as He's got a beard. and She's got glasses., and write the number of the picture: only one picture fits each sentence. In the box at the end, pupils read four sentences aloud together and then say their own. Page 2 gives the answer key and the teacher notes.
Suggested procedure
- (5 min) Point to a few pupils and say one thing about each (Léa has got long hair.).
- (10 min) Task 1: pupils write the word under each picture; check with the answer key.
- (10 min) Task 2: pupils read the six sentences and write the number of the right picture.
- (5 min) Task 3: read the box aloud together; then a pupil says a sentence and the class points to the picture.
Adaptations
[S] Say each word with a gesture first and let pupils copy it.
[A] Pupils say a sentence about a classmate.
Materials & prerequisites
One copy per pupil of page 1, in colour or black and white. Pupils need a pencil. Page 2 is the answer key with teacher notes: keep it. Pupils need no describing words before the sheet: the pictures teach them. Allow time for task 1, which has the most words.
Possible adaptations
- Lower levels: Offer segmented listening and additional visual aids.
- Advanced levels: Encourage an oral summary and a debate in English on the theme.
- Large groups: Organise group work with differentiated roles.
