Trappola classica
1. I asked to my mother ❌
In italiano si chiede a qualcuno (ho chiesto a mia madre), e il calco dà I asked to my mother ❌. In inglese la persona segue ask direttamente, senza preposizione: I asked my mother ✓, Ask your teacher ✓. E per «fare una domanda»: ask a question, mai make a question ❌.

Ask o demand?+
Ask = chiedere, domandare (neutro, comune). Demand = esigere, pretendere (forte, perentorio). Falso amico: demand in inglese ≠ domandare in italiano. Per chiedere con gentilezza: ask.
Ask o ask for?+
Ask (senza for) = fare una domanda, chiedere a qualcuno. Ask FOR + nome = chiedere qualcosa. Ask a question / Ask for help. Sono diversi.
Cosa significa «ask out»?+
Ask someone OUT = invitare qualcuno a uscire (appuntamento romantico). He finally asked her out! = finalmente le ha chiesto di uscire!
Cosa significa «you're asking for it»?+
You're asking for it (modo di dire) = te la stai cercando. Spesso minaccioso o scherzoso. Stop teasing him, you're asking for it!
