Objective & content
This activity sheet is about the body. A big picture shows a girl standing face on, her arms out and her hands open, in a top, leggings and trainers. Nine numbers sit around her, outside the picture, each with a line to one part of her body. Pupils label the parts, then say what we do with them. By the end, pupils name the parts of the body and say I see with my eyes. and I walk with my feet.
Pedagogical guide
Task 1 gives a word box with nine words (hair, eye, ear, nose, mouth, arm, hand, leg, foot) and nine numbered lines: pupils write the word for each number. Each line points to one part only: 1 hair, 2 eye, 3 mouth, 4 ear, 5 nose, 6 arm, 7 hand, 8 leg, 9 foot. The words are singular here, one of each. Task 2 gives six sentences ("I see with my ...", "I hear with my ...", "I smell with my ...", "I eat with my ...", "I clap with my ...", "I walk with my ...") and a box of six words, each used once: eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hands, feet. Four of them are plural, so write eye, eyes and foot, feet on the board before the task. Page 2 gives the answer key and the teacher notes.
Suggested procedure
- (5 min) Play "Touch your nose! Touch your ears!" with the class.
- (10 min) Task 1: pupils write the word for each number; check together.
- (10 min) Task 2: pupils read each sentence and write the body word from the box; read the sentences aloud with a gesture.
- (10 min) In pairs, pupils play "Simon says" with the body words: "Simon says touch your ears!"
Adaptations
[S] Point to each part on yourself and say the word together first.
[A] Pupils write two more sentences: "I write with my hand."
Materials & prerequisites
One copy per pupil of page 1, in colour or black and white. Pupils need only a pencil. Page 2 is the answer key with teacher notes: keep it. The verbs of task 2 (see, hear, smell, eat, clap, walk) may be new: mime each one as you say it. The body words are in the word boxes.
Possible adaptations
- Lower levels: Offer segmented listening and additional visual aids.
- Advanced levels: Encourage an oral summary and a debate in English on the theme.
- Large groups: Organise group work with differentiated roles.
