1. Stare bene (di taglia)
- These pants fit me perfectly. (Questi pantaloni mi stanno a pennello.)
- The shoes don't fit. (Le scarpe non mi vanno bene.)
2. Andare bene, corrispondere
Senso figurato.
- This solution fits the problem. (Questa soluzione è adatta al problema.)
- It fits perfectly. (Combacia perfettamente.)
3. Aggettivo: in forma
Fit (agg.) = in forma, in buona salute.
- I keep fit by jogging. (Mi tengo in forma facendo jogging.)
- She's very fit. (È in grande forma.)
Le trappole da evitare
1. Fit ≠ suit
In inglese no: The dress fits you (la taglia è giusta) ≠ The dress suits you (ti dona, lo stile o il colore ti valorizza). Errore classico in negozio.
2. I am in form ❌
I'm fit ✓ oppure I'm in good shape ✓, mai I am in form ❌. E per «tenersi in forma»: keep fit.

Domande frequenti
Due forme: fit (US, invariabile) oppure fitted (UK, regolare). Sono corrette entrambe. The dress fit her (US) / The dress fitted her well (UK).
The shirt fits me (la taglia è giusta) / Blue suits you (il blu ti dona).
Fit significa anche in forma?+
Sì! Fit (aggettivo) = in forma, in buona salute. Keep fit = tenersi in forma. Get fit = rimettersi in forma.
Fitting room (UK) oppure dressing room (US). Where are the fitting rooms? = dove sono i camerini? Per provare un capo: Can I try this on?
The dress is a perfect fit = il vestito calza a pennello.
