The objective is to introduce and consolidate basic vocabulary for describing physical appearance by identifying and associating antonymous (opposite) adjectives.

The document is an exercise titled "Antonyms Game" for A2 level on the theme "Adjectives of Appearance". Students must connect eight pairs of words with opposite meanings. The vocabulary covers basic descriptive concepts: attractive/unattractive, bright/dark, clean/dirty, straight/curly, thick/thin, light/heavy, tidy/untidy, and soft/hard. This activity provides learners with the tools to start making simple comparisons.

Suggested Procedure

Before the activity (~5 min): THE GAME OF OPPOSITES

Start a quick oral warm-up. Say a word students know (e.g.: big, happy) and ask them to shout out the opposite. Then show an image (e.g.: a clean room) and ask for the adjective, then its opposite.

During the activity (~5-10 min): FINDING THE OPPOSITES

Distribute the worksheet. Ensure that the instruction to find the opposite (the opposite) is well understood.
Do the first, most obvious pair (e.g.: clean/dirty) all together.
Allow students, individually or in pairs, to connect the other pairs. Correct collectively by miming or showing objects (stroking a scarf for soft, tapping on the table for hard).

After the activity (~10 min): DESCRIBE THE IMAGE

Show a simple image of a person or place.
Ask simple questions that elicit the adjectives from the sheet as answers. For example: "Is the room tidy or untidy?", "Is her hair straight or curly?".

Adaptations

To simplify: Use classroom objects to concretely illustrate the concepts: a scarf (soft) and a book (hard), a pencil (light) and a backpack (heavy).
To deepen: Ask students to draw two contrasting characters or rooms (e.g.: a soft monster and a hard monster) and label their drawings with at least two pairs of antonyms from the sheet.
