How to take part in The Big Challenge: dates, key steps, registration and costs. Intended for schools, teachers and coordinators.
When does the contest take place?
The Big Challenge contest takes place on set dates, depending on the format chosen by the school.
- Online format: the contest can be held between 15 March and 27 March 2027 (from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.), offering schools greater flexibility.
- Mixed format: the contest is held between 15 March and 27 March 2027.
Both formats make it possible to adapt to the constraints of schools.
What are the steps to take part?
Here are the steps to follow to organise the contest in your school:
1️⃣ Appoint a coordinator: a teacher or a member of the teaching team is responsible for managing registrations and organising the contest.
2️⃣ Choose a format or combine them:
- Online format: a test taken entirely online.
- Mixed format: a test combining online and paper.
👉 You can register students for either format or split your students across the two.
3️⃣ Register your students: register them online from 25 August 2026 via the registration portal. You can choose the format for each student.
4️⃣ Prepare your students: help them practise with The Big Challenge PLAY and past papers from previous years.
5️⃣ Run the test: supervise the test according to the format chosen.
6️⃣ Send the answer sheets and view the results:
- Mixed format: send the answer sheets for marking.
- Online format: view the results directly online via the teacher account.
7️⃣ Receive and hand out the prizes and certificates 🎉:
- Once the results are confirmed, you receive the prizes and certificates.
- Hand them out to students to recognise their participation and reward their efforts.

How do I register my students?
Registering students is quick. Here are the steps to follow:
- Registration opening date: from 25 August 2026.
- Registration deadline: 6 March 2027 (recommended date: before 29 January 2027).
- Where do I register? Registration is done online via this page or by returning the registration form by post.
Good to know 💡 To make it easier to track registration, you need to appoint a teaching coordinator within the school. This coordinator can follow the progress of registrations and oversee the contest.
How much does it cost to register for the contest?
The registration fee is €10 per student and includes both The Contest and The Academy.
