The Contest
What is The Big Challenge? The Big Challenge is an English contest for students from Grade 3 to Grade 9, held every year in France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Poland, the Benelux and Brazil. More than 500,000 students take part each year. → Learn more
When does the contest take place?
- Online format: a remote online test, taken any day between 15 March and 27 March 2027.
- Mixed format: a paper test, taken between 15 March and 27 March 2027. → Dates and organisation
How do I register my students? Registration is completed online through the registration portal by a coordinating teacher. Students cannot register individually. A minimum of 30 students is required. → Everything about registration
How much does it cost to take part? €10 per student, which includes both The Contest and The Academy. → Detailed pricing and payment terms
What is the difference between the Online and Mixed formats? It is the same 55-question paper for both formats, with audio content in both. The Online format is a fully online test, with individual audio (headphones). The Mixed format is a paper questionnaire with the audio played to the class (projected or through speakers), for classes that cannot take the whole test online. What prizes can be won? Every participant receives an individual prize and a Certificate of Participation. More than 50% of students receive additional prizes. Prizes are shipped from 31 May 2027. → Prize details
Practice
How can students prepare for the contest? The The Big Challenge PLAY app is the best preparation tool. It offers interactive games, quizzes and more than 20,000 questions, free of charge and all year round. → Everything about practice
Do you have to be registered for the contest to use PLAY? No, the app is available to all students, whether or not they take part in the contest. → Access to PLAY
The Academy
What is The Academy? The Big Challenge Academy is an online teaching platform offering self-correcting assignments, multimedia series, group events and a resource library for teachers. → About The Academy
How much does The Academy cost? A one-year subscription to The Academy is included with every registration for the contest — see registration fees. → Academy overview
Teacher account
Do I need an account to take part? A teacher account lets you manage registrations, follow your students' progress and access results. Creating one is free and does not commit you to entering the contest. → Create an account

For students
How do I take part in the contest? Ask your teacher to register your class. You don't need to create an account to take part. → Everything about taking part
Where can I check my results? Results are available from 28 May 2027 on results.thebigchallenge.com with your personal code. → Check the results
How do I delete my PLAY account? Go to your account settings and select "Delete my account". → Delete my account
