The content of the contest
The contest topics cover vocabulary, grammar, culture and pronunciation, geared to CEFR levels A1- to B1. The question papers vary depending on the format (Online or Mixed): the Online format includes written and audio multiple-choice questions, while the Mixed format is a paper questionnaire testing reading comprehension only.
Which topics are covered?
The Big Challenge is designed for students at CEFR levels A1- to B1, with varied questions to assess reading, listening and cultural comprehension.
📚 The topics covered include:
- Vocabulary: alphabet, numbers, colours, days, months, seasons, time, family, the home, school, sports, hobbies, food, etc.
- Expressions: greetings, everyday exchanges, asking for and giving personal information.
- Grammar: present simple, present continuous, WH questions, prepositions of place.
- Pronunciation: identifying sounds, rhymes and distinctive sounds.
- Culture: geography, famous people, food and celebrations in English-speaking countries.

What do the question papers look like?
The contest question papers are available in two formats:
- Online format: an online question paper with integrated audio content (individual listening with headphones).
- Mixed format: the same question paper on paper, with the audio content played to the class (projected or through speakers).
