Objective & content
This is a documentary podcast about American state and county fairs. One friend explains and the other reacts: at a fair, people bring their best things and a judge gives the winner a blue ribbon. A county fair is small and a state fair is huge, and there are more than three thousand fairs a year in North America. Kids look after their own animal for months, then wash it, brush it and walk it into the show ring. The episode also visits a life-size cow made of six hundred pounds of butter, food on a stick, fried cola and a giant talking cowboy. The grammar focus is present simple, with questions (Doesn't it melt?) and can for ability. Learners listen for the numbers and the fair vocabulary, for example "You can walk and eat at the same time."
