Objective & content
Jessa guides listeners through the South, the region with fourteen states and about 127 million people, from Virginia to Texas. Together they compare four barbecue styles (Texas beef, Memphis ribs, Carolina pulled pork and Alabama's white sauce), then talk about Nashville as "Music City", the word "y'all", the Mardi Gras party in New Orleans, the hot and humid summers and the size of Texas. Learners practise present simple, superlatives and short comparatives (more, bigger, closer), with vocabulary of food, weather and music. The main skill is listening; one line to notice is "That's not a state. That's a country wearing a cowboy hat."
