Teaching guide

Objective & content

Jeff, the guide this time, and a joking learner explore the Mountain West, eight states that do not touch the ocean. The script compares them with California and the United Kingdom, then climbs through the Rocky Mountains, Mount Elbert, Denver and Yellowstone with its geyser Old Faithful. It ends with ski towns and the Sundance Film Festival in Park City. The language focus is present simple, superlatives and short comparatives, with large numbers and quantity phrases. The vocabulary covers US geography, capitals and sightseeing, and learners practise listening for figures. One line shows the humour: "A geyser with a better schedule than me."
