Teaching guide

Objective & content

Jeff, the guide this time, explains American sports to Jessa in a light survey of football, basketball, baseball and the Super Bowl. They start with why "football" is a game played mostly with the hands, then move to the 1891 story of James Naismith and his peach baskets, the diamond and four bases of baseball, and the big day of the Super Bowl. The language focus is the present simple and superlatives (the biggest day), with one short past simple story about basketball. Learners listen for rules, numbers and sports words at A1+. One line to listen for: "As in, for peaches."
