Teaching guide

Objective & content

Max, Mila, Luna and Ben are each asked the same question by the narrator, and each answers with a different day: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The pre-A1 pupils hear the fixed question "What day is it today?" and the chunk "It's Monday", and learn four days of the week through listening, pointing and repeating. The grammar is a question word with the affirmative of "be", taught as a fixed formula, not analysed. At the end the kids say "Now you say it!" and the class answers the question aloud after a pause of about four seconds. No reading or writing is involved.

Materials & prerequisites

No printable sheets or lesson plan come with this episode. You need the audio and slideshow, and a classroom calendar or a board with the four days written on it for pointing. No prior English is assumed.

Curriculum alignment

The episode is tagged with the cycle 3 axis "c3-child-and-passing-time" (6e). It targets CEFR level A0-.

Possible adaptations

  • Lower levels: Offer segmented listening and additional visual aids.
