Objective & content
This Look Closer episode (the mini-series Harry Potter's Britain, one real place per episode) is a short documentary about Leadenhall Market in the City of London. A single narrator shows the date painted on the arch under the glass roof, then explains how Harry and Hagrid walked through the market to the Leaky Cauldron in the first film, and that the pub's door was really a glasses shop. The narrator then looks under the market, at the centre of the Roman town of Londinium and the walls of its first town hall, found in 2025. It is a comprehension episode: the narration uses the present simple and the past simple (with was and there was), the imperative look, and no grammar point is taught. Learners listen, then answer the 10 questions in the app: 7 on facts and 3 on vocabulary (glass roof, market square, town hall).
Materials & prerequisites
The folder holds the audio, the slideshow and the script. Each pack is a one-page PDF with the text, three pictures, the key words and the 10 questions: a pupil pack, and a teacher pack with the answers highlighted. It also has a pupil sheet and a teacher sheet with the answer key. It has no lesson plan. Play the episode twice, hand out the pupil pack, then use the closing question (Which do you like more: the wizards' pub or the Roman town?) for a short class discussion. Learners should know the words shop, door, film and town, and be able to read years such as 1881 and 2025. The pack's key words explain the new words (arch, wizard, pub, square, huge, town hall).
Curriculum alignment
