Objective & content

In this episode of Golden Bay, Cole shows Mason an empty storefront and explains the gallery he is arranging for him, while Neil pitches Stella a café gig in which she can fire him "any day you want. In writing." Mason finally asks for "something small, private", and Cole phones Marcus as soon as the boy leaves. The grammar focus is the causative have/get something done ("I'm getting the lease drawn up", "we have them framed"), heard twice with opposite intentions; the passive voice is present but secondary. Vocabulary covers galleries, printing and recording, and deals and percentages. Learners work on listening comprehension, then vocabulary and grammar practice.

Pedagogical guide

The lesson lasts 50 minutes and uses the mirror between the two pitches as its spine: the grammar is identical, the intent is not. Learners compare who decides in each scene (Cole arranges everything for Mason; Neil asks first and gives Stella control). The episode is dialogue only, so everything learners need is spoken. It is the quieter episode of the module and ends on a soft hook rather than an escalation. Differentiated tasks ([S] support, [A] extension) are given for each activity.

Suggested procedure

  1. (5 min) Show the cover image without context and ask whether learners would accept someone organising their whole life without asking them. Collect three or four ideas.
  2. (5 min) Pre-teach gallery, lease, catalog, merch, percent and hustle with simple definitions.
  3. (15 min) First listen without pausing: who is arranging something for someone else? Second listen with three pauses (end of Scene 1, end of Scene 2, Scene 3) to check what Cole arranges, what condition Neil accepts, and what Mason asks for.
  4. (5 min) Comprehension check with six questions drawn from the exercises.
  5. (5 min) Vocabulary practice: matching game or the student sheet.
  6. (5 min) Grammar: sort the causative lines under "Cole's pitch (arranging FOR someone)" and "Neil's pitch (arranging WITH someone)", then drill the forms.
  7. (5 min, optional) Pair work: a "manager" pitches a plan using two causative sentences, and the partner asks one question the manager missed. A short written extension is also possible.
