Teaching guide

Objective & content

In this series finale, Stella, Elena, Tiago, Mason, Harper, Neil, Diane and Rodrigo walk along the pier to dinner. At the end Stella asks Tiago's permission, then asks Rodrigo if the family can call him "Pai". The taught point is the present perfect with for, never and ever (We've called you Rodrigo for two years). Reported speech and modal perfects are heard in natural use and not tested. Learners practise listening comprehension and vocabulary about family and belonging, then the in-app quiz.

Pedagogical guide

This 50-minute lesson treats the episode as a conversation about choosing a name for someone you love. Students meet the present perfect in three lines from the script and then talk about themselves with for and never. Give a short gloss for the reported and modal lines and move on. Accept every family form in the room, and let students share only what they are comfortable sharing. Support learners get images, sentence frames and questions 1 to 3; advanced learners work without word banks.

Suggested procedure

  1. (4 min) Activate prior knowledge: what do you call the adults who look after you? Collect three or four answers.
  2. (6 min) Preview five words: title, forever, invasion, written, approve.
  3. (4 min) First listen, without interruption: where are the characters, and what is the big moment at the end?
  4. (11 min) Second listen, pausing four times to ask about dinner guests, Elena and Tiago, Stella's new writing, and Rodrigo's answer.
  5. (6 min) Comprehension check: five oral or written questions.
  6. (5 min) Vocabulary practice: match the five words to definitions, then write one sentence.
  7. (7 min) Grammar focus: underline the verb forms in three script lines, then complete four sentences about yourself.
  8. (7 min) Speaking extension: in pairs, say why Stella chose "Pai" and why a name matters.
