Objective & content

Harper announces the Golden Bay Gala and begins "the list" of who performs and who is invited. Neil pitches official merchandise, Stella refuses to audition when Mika urges her to, and Tiago's lack of interest makes Harper put him on the list anyway. The grammar focus is the present continuous for arrangements and actions in progress ("I'm running all of it"), with vocabulary for events and popularity such as list, stage and audition. The episode ends on the defaced Gala poster.

Pedagogical guide

The lesson plan (45 minutes, audio about 3 minutes) teaches the present continuous as the target grammar: arrangements in progress, current actions and near-future plans fixed by a schedule. The scene breaks give three pause points for discussion, and the plan suggests stopping before the last scene so learners can predict what happens to the poster. [S] and [A] options are given for each stage.

Suggested procedure

  1. (5 min) Activate prior knowledge: ask how a school would react if one student controlled who is invited, and note ideas on the board.
  2. (5 min) Preview six words: list, stage, audition, organized, dying to, incredible.
  3. (15 min) Listen once for gist, then again with pauses after each of the first three scenes.
  4. (5 min) Comprehension check with six questions from the quiz.
  5. (5 min) Vocabulary practice: matching from the quiz, or the worksheet.
  6. (5 min) Grammar focus: sort lines from the episode into arrangements in progress, listing arrangements and near-future plans, then drill the forms.
  7. Optional: a role play in which one learner announces a class event, and a short text Stella might send to Mika.
