Objective & content
Tiago flies from São Paulo to Golden Bay to live with his father Rodrigo, his stepmother Diane and her twins, Mason and Stella. The episode is all dialogue: a welcome at the door, the twins alone, Diane and Rodrigo in the kitchen, and Tiago alone in his new bedroom, where he ignores a call from his mother. The grammar focus is the present simple for describing people, house rules and likes and dislikes, with question forms such as "Do you like fish?". Learners build family and home vocabulary (stepbrother, stepsister, guest, nervous, weird, worry). The main skill is listening comprehension, then the in-app quiz.
Pedagogical guide
The lesson plan lasts 45 minutes around a listening of about 4 minutes. The present simple is a revision point at this level, so it is practised in an emotional, realistic scene rather than introduced. Two threads stay open on purpose (why Tiago is really here, why Diane boxed up the candles): do not explain them. Support [S] and extension [A] options are given at every stage.
Suggested procedure
- (5 min) Warm-up: ask how it feels to move to a new country to live with strangers, and collect feeling words on the board.
- (5 min) Vocabulary preview: stepbrother, stepsister, guest, nervous, weird, worry, whole, with a family-tree sketch.
- (15 min) Listening: a first listen without pausing (who welcomes Tiago, and who seems happy?), then a second listen with three pauses (after the twins' scene, after the candle line, after "Does she"), each with one question.
- (5 min) Comprehension check: five oral or written questions from the quiz.
- (5 min) Vocabulary practice: a matching game or the worksheet.
- (5 min) Grammar: sort lines from the script under describing people, house rules and likes and dislikes, then drill question and negative forms.
- (5 min, optional) Speaking in pairs: explain three house rules to a new step-sibling. A short writing task (Stella's text to a friend) can follow.
