Objective & content
In this dialogue, Diane and Rodrigo Voss hear that a rumour about Tiago's past has reached the marina. Diane answers a curious client with steel, then tells Tiago at home, "In this house, you're one of mine." Elena, Stella and Tiago also talk about parents keeping the story alive. The grammar focus is the present perfect simple ("Have you heard...?", "I've carried that word for two months"), with vocabulary on family, feelings and gossip. Learners work on listening comprehension first, then the in-app quiz.
Pedagogical guide
The lesson is planned for 50 minutes with a 4e (Cycle 4) class on the axis "Encountering others". It follows a pre-listening, listening and post-listening sequence, with [S] support and [A] stretch paths. Keep the discussion on feelings and on how to respond kindly: the episode does not say whether Tiago is guilty, so do not ask students to decide. Model "I've" and "Have you heard...?" aloud before students use them.
Suggested procedure
- (5 min) Write "rumour" on the board; in pairs, students ask "Have you ever heard a rumour about a person? Was it true?"
- (5 min) Preview six words: gentle, scary, afraid, thin, gossip, feed.
- (4 min) First listen, without stopping: who are the people and what is the problem?
- (10 min) Second listen, pausing after each of the first three scenes to check who is afraid, what Diane tells the client and who keeps the story alive.
- (5 min) Comprehension check with five questions that match the in-app quiz.
- (4 min) Vocabulary practice: match words and meanings, then one true sentence each.
- (8 min) Grammar focus: underline the present perfect in three lines from the script, elicit the rule, then "Have you ever ___?" and "I have never ___."
- (6 min) Pair speaking: a friend asks a boy who is the subject of a rumour two or three present perfect questions.
- (3 min, optional) Write two or three sentences on what Diane has done for Tiago.
