Objective & content

The episode is set on the evening of the Gala, after Tiago has told the town the truth. In four short scenes, Diane asks Tiago to forgive her, Rodrigo admits he did not stand by his son, Harper hides her feelings behind a joke, Stella invites Theo for a coffee, and Tiago asks Elena on a real date. The grammar focus is modals in the past for regret ("I should have known") and irregular past simple verbs (did, told, left), with vocabulary of feelings and relationships (forgive, deserve, excuse, mess, exhausting, incredible, obviously). Learners practise listening for who apologises, who forgives and what each character decides.

Pedagogical guide

The lesson lasts 50 minutes. Let students react to Diane and Rodrigo first, then do the language work. Keep "should have" as a chunk for regret and do not teach the past perfect: point out only that the speakers talk about things that happened before now. Harper's scene uses irony; replay her last lines and ask how she feels rather than explaining each word.

Suggested procedure

  1. (5 min) Board question: "Have you ever said sorry and really meant it?" Pairs talk, then share one idea.
  2. (5 min) Preview seven words: forgive, deserve, excuse, mess, exhausting, incredible, obviously.
  3. (5 min) First listen without stopping: what is the main topic?
  4. (13 min) Second listen, pausing at the end of scenes 1, 2 and 3 (about 1:37, 2:49 and 3:41), then play scene 4 to the end. Ask who says sorry, how Harper really feels, and what Stella and Tiago ask.
  5. (6 min) Comprehension check: five questions, oral or from the in-app quiz.
  6. (5 min) Vocabulary matching, then one sentence per student.
  7. (6 min) Grammar: write "I should have known" on the board, explain should have + past participle for regret, and revise did. Pairs complete three gap sentences.
  8. (5 min) Role-play in pairs: one student apologises, the other forgives. An optional written task can be set as homework.
