Teaching guide

Objective & content

Diane, a realtor, is losing showings because her son Mason painted over her billboard, and at first she refuses to talk to him. With Rodrigo's push, she listens, sees the "Masks for Sale" sign properly and decides to keep it, with Stella and Rodrigo watching. The grammar focus is the passive (was staged) and the past perfect (had already been put up), plus one third conditional line that learners only recognise. Vocabulary covers image, reputation, mask and survival. Learners practise listening comprehension, then the in-app quiz.

Pedagogical guide

The 50-minute lesson follows episode 26, so tell students that Diane and Mason have just argued. Students notice the passive and the past perfect in three lines from the script and say what each tells us about the order of events. The third conditional is listening input only: nobody produces it. Support learners get images, sentence frames and a shorter question set; advanced learners write original sentences and give evidence from the script.

Suggested procedure

  1. (4 min) Activate prior knowledge: do people show their real life online? Collect three ideas on the board.
  2. (6 min) Preview six words: mask, flaw, survival, statement, career, stranger.
  3. (5 min) First listen, without interruption: what is the main topic?
  4. (10 min) Second listen, pausing at the end of each of the three scenes to ask why Diane refuses, why Mason chose this sign, and what she decides.
  5. (7 min) Comprehension check: five oral or written questions.
  6. (5 min) Vocabulary practice: match the word cards, then use the student sheet.
  7. (8 min) Grammar focus: underline the verb groups in three script lines, then build one passive and one past perfect sentence.
  8. (5 min) Speaking extension: in pairs, act the ending as Diane and Mason, then swap roles.
