Objective & content
In this episode, a mystery artist is painting murals around Golden Bay and Tiago is a fading suspect, so he asks Neil to help him find the real painter. Neil, who sells "Who Is The Artist?" shirts, treats the mystery as a business and tells him: "Facts don't sell shirts, buddy." Mason also appears, reassuring Tiago at home late at night. The language focus is the present continuous for actions in progress ("We're looking for someone...", "I'm ordering more shirts") contrasted with the present simple for habits and general truths. Vocabulary covers detective and crime words, rumours, art and shops; learners practise listening comprehension, then the in-app quiz.
Pedagogical guide
This 45-minute lesson for a 4eme class (A2+) asks learners to choose between the present continuous (happening right now) and the present simple (habit or general truth), using lines sorted from the script. The identity of the artist stays open for the whole season, so do not solve the mystery with the class; treat it as a hook. Reading Neil's lines in a sales-pitch voice helps the humour land. Support ([S]) and extension ([A]) options are given at each stage.
Suggested procedure
- Pre-listening, activate prior knowledge (5 min): ask what people would say about a mysterious artist at school and whether learners would want to know who it is.
- Pre-listening, vocabulary preview (5 min): present suspect, detective, secret, mysterious, clear (my name) and eventually.
- First listen (about 5 min): play the whole episode (about 2 minutes 40 seconds) without pausing and ask whether Tiago is still the main suspect and what Neil sells.
- Second listen (about 10 min): pause three times, after the hallway, the mural and the late-night scene, to discuss why Tiago asks for help, Neil's three facts and what Mason says.
- Comprehension check (5 min): ask five oral or written questions.
- Vocabulary practice (5 min): run the matching game or use the printed class pack.
- Grammar focus (5 min): sort lines into happening right now and habit or general truth, then drill the forms.
- Optional extensions: a detective and suspect role-play with present continuous questions, and a short witness statement.
