Objective & content

In this last episode of Module 6, Stella tells Harper that Brody plans to expose Tiago at the school Gala. Harper offers to ruin Brody, but Tiago says no: "it'll be on my own terms". Elena then promises to sit in the front row. Learners practise reported speech (said that, told me) and plans with going to, with vocabulary about rumours and reputation. The skill is listening for gist and detail, then the in-app quiz.

Pedagogical guide

The 45-minute lesson for 4e (A2+) follows the four scenes of the episode. Reported speech is introduced lightly, with one backshift (am going to becomes was going to).

Suggested procedure

  1. (5 min) Activate prior knowledge: rumours at school, key words on the board.
  2. (5 min) Vocabulary preview: expose, criminal, bury, disappear, speech, terms, version.
  3. (4 min) First listen for the main topic.
  4. (8 min) Second listen, pausing at the end of each scene to ask short questions.
  5. (5 min) Comprehension check with five questions.
  6. (4 min) Vocabulary matching game and one sentence per student.
  7. (6 min) Grammar focus on said and told me, then a rumour game in groups of four.
  8. (5 min) Pair speaking: Tiago and a friend.
  9. (3 min, optional) Write three sentences reporting what a friend told you.

Materials & prerequisites

  • Lesson plan, student sheet and teacher sheet (PDF)
