Objective & content
After school, George visits his mum Kate at her vet clinic for the first time. She introduces four animals and says one fact about each: dogs like to run and play outside, cats sleep a lot, rabbits eat carrots and vegetables, hamsters run on their wheels at night. The episode teaches the present simple for general truths (Cats sleep a lot.) and the third-person -s. The vocabulary is pets: dog, cat, rabbit, hamster, big, small, quiet, fluffy. Learners listen for the four animals and their facts, then check their understanding with the in-app quiz.
Pedagogical guide
Each animal gets one clear fact, so the verb form is easy to spot and compare (plural like, sleep, eat, run). The typical error is the rabbit eat carrots: French and German pupils do not expect an ending on the third person, so point out that English adds -s only for one animal (he, she, it), never for a plural or for I, you, we, they.
Suggested procedure
- (3 min) Warm-up: ask who has a pet, brainstorm animals in English, and explain that Kate is a vet with a clinic.
- (5 min) Preview the eight words, with the family and the setting.
- (4 min) First listen: which four animals does George meet?
- (8 min) Second listen with pauses: what do dogs like, how is the cat described, what does the rabbit eat, when is the hamster active?
- (7 min) Grammar focus: compare plural subjects with no -s and singular subjects with -s, then a thumbs up or down drill on four sentences.
- (6 min) Pupils draw a pet and tell a partner one fact (Cats sleep a lot.); the partner repeats it and checks the verb ending.
