Teaching guide

Objective & content

George and Rosie are decorating the Walker garden the day before Rosie's party, and their neighbour Lucas comes through the gate with flowers to help. The episode teaches six prepositions of movement, each tied to something in the garden: Let's put the balloons onto the fence first. The vocabulary field is decorations and helping (balloon, ladder, fence, gate, lights, flowers, carry, climb). Learners listen for each preposition, then check their understanding with the in-app quiz.

Pedagogical guide

Every movement has a nameable target in the garden (the fence, the gate, the apple tree), so learners can link each preposition to a real path. The typical difficulty is using one all-purpose word such as in or at for every movement; stress that English chooses the preposition by the shape of the movement. Italian learners may reach for a or in.

Suggested procedure

  1. (8 min) Pre-listening: ask who has helped decorate for a party, meet Lucas, and preview the decoration words.
  2. (4 min) First listen: where are George and Rosie, and who arrives to help?
  3. (8 min) Second listen with pauses: which word tells us where the balloons go and how they get there?
  4. (9 min) Comprehension check and vocabulary practice.
  5. (7 min) Grammar: match the six prepositions to their garden objects from the script, and discuss the shape of each movement.
  6. (6 min) Speaking: in pairs, give an instruction with a preposition of movement and the partner acts it out.

Materials & prerequisites
