Teaching guide

Objective & content

On a Saturday morning George and Rosie stand by the chalkboard chore list, and Rosie goes through who does what: Dad, Mum and herself. The episode teaches the present simple third person -s for family roles (Dad washes the dishes every night), the question form Does she ever get tired of it? and adverbs of frequency as support. The vocabulary field is household chores and family routines. Learners listen for who does which job, then take the in-app quiz.

Pedagogical guide

The script is unusually dense in the target form (washes, vacuums, cleans, takes, sweeps, walks), so it can serve as the grammar text. Rosie says both I sweep and she sweeps within a few lines, which makes the contrast easy to hear. Bin bags, collection day and patio are very British: give the L1 equivalent once and move on.

Suggested procedure

  1. (5 min) Draw a chore list on the board; pupils call out chores they do at home, in the infinitive.
  2. (7 min) First listen, books closed: what job does George have, and why is it unfair?
  3. (10 min) Second listen with the comprehension worksheet; pause after Rosie's list and have pupils write who does what.
  4. (10 min) Rewrite each board chore with he or she and find the -s.
  5. (8 min) In pairs, interview a partner about chores at home with Who...? and Does your brother...?
  6. (5 min) Wrap-up: one sentence about a job they find hard to do properly.
